The 9th Annual CYTEC Candy Cane Lane 5k Race & Fun Run begins at 10:30am on Sunday, November 24, 2013.
Established to promote both outdoor physical activity and healthy lifestyles while raising food and cash donations for the Project SHARE Christmas Basket Program, the CYTEC Candy Cane Lane 5k Race has quickly established itself as a prestigious, yet fun event.
Each 5k Racer and Fun Runner will receive an official CYTEC Candy Cane Lane 5k Race T-shirt, while those raising funds for Project SHARE can earn prizes based on pledge amounts. After the Race, stay for the award presentations and enjoy a delicious pasta lunch for just $10.
5k Race: Runners complete two circuits of the 2.5 km route which starts at the Best Western Plus Cairn Croft Hotel, travels along Lundy’s Lane (a.k.a. Candy Cane Lane) and surrounding streets and ends back at the Best Western Plus Cairn Croft. Runners from across the Niagara Region, the GTA and Western New York compete to become the overall Top Male and Top Female finishers, and claim their $250 cash prize. While the top three male and female finishers in up to 13 age groups are awarded medals.
Fun Run: The Fun Run is one lap around the 2.5 km route and allows families and friends to participate in a non-competitive fashion. All are encouraged to participate using creative ways to make the Run fun, i.e. costumes, team themes, etc. Fun Runners may walk (even with baby strollers), skip, sled or ski if they chose, with the ultimate goal being to have fun while enjoying an outdoor physical activity.
Elementary School Challenge: Be the school with the most participation and school spirit, and you'll win a school appearance by a special guest. Past guests have included Canadian Olympic athletes.
