The Winter Festival of Lights was proud to host a total of 25 teams who participated in the inaugural Dodgeball Mania co-ed tournament on Saturday, January 26th at the Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls. Teams went head-to-head vying for $5,000 in cash and prizes, all as part of the Cintrón SportsFest Niagara weekend of activities. The tournament welcomed teams of various skill-levels competing in Recreational and Competitive Divisions. Fourteen teams participated in the Recreational Division while 11 competed in the Competitive Division. Teams consisted of six to ten players with a minimum of two females per team. Participants traveled from as far and wide as Brantford, Hamilton and Burlington to Toronto, Buffalo, NY and Ottawa. Dodgeball Mania is organized in partnership with Hamilton-based league, Extreme Dodgeball Hamilton. January 26th – January 27th, 2013 the Niagara Winter Classic Ball Hockey Tournamentat Ball Hockey International (BHi) St. Catharines, 1944 Welland Canals Parkway, St. Catharines, Ontario, L2P 0B2The tournament featured a 4-on-4 plus a goalie format, with two halves with run time. The two-day event was open to all age groups and consisted of six divisions: Youth, Men's Recreational, Intermediate, Elite, Ladies, and Co-Ed. A total of 21 teams and 210 people participated in this fun outdoor event at the two BHi St. Catharines rinks despite the sometimes brisk and frigid temperatures. The Men's Elite Division Championship featured two teams that went undefeated in their preliminary games - The Niagara Terrorists and the North Stars. When these two teams faced each other in Round-Robin play on Saturday, they played to a scoreless draw. In the Championship game on Sunday, both teams able to light the lamp on several occasions and the Niagara Terrorists would come away with the 6-3 victory and take home the $1000 cash prize. Chinese New Year Invitational Gymnastics Meet Taking place in coordination with Cintrón SportsFest Niagara this meet was held over three days Friday January 25th - Sunday, Jan. 27th, 2013, the meet was hosted by Gymnastics Energy at their facility in St. Catharines, Ontario. This Gymnastics Ontario Sanctioned event was open to gymnasts in the Ontario Development Program (ODP), Ontario Competitive Program (OCP) Level 2-9 and Masters. Over 300 athletes representing 18 different gymnastics clubs in Ontario participated in this meet. In addition to the four participating Niagara region clubs (Gymnastics Energy, Niagara Falls Lightning, Niagara Acrobats and Welland Aereo), the meet also hosted clubs from the following areas outside of Niagara: Elmira, Guelph, Hamilton, Toronto, Oakville, Kingston, Kitchener/Waterloo, and Woodstock were also in attendance.
